Akira Okamoto is currently a senior trumpet performance major studying under Dr. Brian Walker at Tarleton State University. In addition, he maintains a private lesson studio in Texas teaching trumpet students in Azle ISD, Carrollton ISD, and Irving ISD as well as staying active in the marching arts as a marching band technician throughout Dallas-Fort Worth.
On campus, Mr. Okamoto has served as principal trumpet in the Tarleton State Wind Ensemble and split lead trumpet for Tarleton Jazz Ensemble I. He has also been a member of the Tarleton State Trumpet Ensemble, national semifinalists in the National Trumpet Competition for four consecutive years and a semifinalist as a soloist in 2018. Selected for the final round of the honorable “Center Stage” competition for four years in a row, Akira has won twice (2015 and 2018) and was also the co-winner of the Tarleton Bands’ Concerto Competition in 2018. Akira performed with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps as a lead trumpet player in 2015 and 2016. He currently resides in North Richland Hills, Texas.
